Report: NHL negotiating new CBA with officials' union

The NHL and the officials' union are "very quietly" negotiating a new CBA, according to John Shannon of Sportsnet in Canada.

Renaud Lavoie of Canada's TVA Sports reported earlier this month the officials want a new CBA in place before the start of the upcoming season.

Shannon also notes the last time the CBA expired, labor negotiations between the league and its officials went until the day before the start of the regular season. Officials worked the entired 2010 preseason without a contract while negotiations continued.

The CBA expired at the end of the 2013-14 season.
