Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson recently had the captain's C added to his jersey, so he's made sure that his fans' sweaters aren't automatically outdated.

In a stand-up move, Karlsson, purchased 1,000 C's to give to fans so they could update their jerseys before Ottawa’s home opener against Colorado on Thursday night

The 2012 Norris Trophy winner, who replaced center Jason Spezza as captain of the Senators, announced the patch giveaway on Twitter. This is the Swedish defenseman’s first season as the team's official leader. He's coming off a career-high of 20 goals in 82 games last season.

While Karlsson's gesture has garnered plenty of attention, a player helping to keep fans current after a jersey change isn't all that unusual: Dallas forward Antoine Roussel promised Stars faithful a sweater exchange after his number was changed from number 60 to 21 at the end of the 2012-13 season
