Ducks reassign rookie goalie Jonathan Gibson to AHL Norfolk

A Duck is flying south on the depth charts, but only temporarily.

Rookie goalie John Gibson has been assigned to Anaheim’s minor-league affiliate Norfolk for the weekend. In a season-opening loss to the Penguins, he allowed six goals, making it clear that the 21-year-old needs some work and perhaps a confidence boost. The Admirals have games on Friday and Saturday, and the club’s plan is to have Gibson start in both.

Frederik Andersen has taken hold of the Ducks' net in the team's three games since, posting a 3-0 record with a .928 save percentage and 1.95 goals-against average. Anaheim recalled veteran Jason Labarbera from the Admirals to serve as Andersen's back up.
