Postponed Senators-Maple Leafs game rescheduled for Nov. 9
Wednesday's postponed Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game has been rescheduled for Nov. 9 in Ottawa, the NHL announced Thursday.
The game was postponed by the league in the wake of the shootings in Ottawa Wednesday morning.
In the attacks, a Canadian solider was killed and several others were hospitalized with minor injuries after a rampage perpetrated by a lone gunman. The gunman killed the solider, who was standing guard at the National War Memorial, before entering the Parliament building, where he was eventually shot dead.
The Maple Leafs and Senators both released statements Wednesday expressing condolences for the victims of the shootings and their families and support for the NHL's decision, with Senators owner Eugene Melnyk saying "hockey is certainly secondary to these type of tragic events."
The NHL made a similar decision in 2013, postponing the Boston Bruins' home game against the Senators on April 15 due to the Boston Marathon bombings that occurred earlier that day.
Before Tuesday night's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers in Pittsburgh, fans sang along to "O Canada," the Canadian national anthem, played in honor of those in Ottawa.
The Senators have a home game against the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 8 and travel to the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 11, while the Maple Leafs have a home game against the New York Rangers on Nov. 8 and then host the Boston Bruins on Nov. 12.
