Tim Thompson might not be a household name but his work is instantly recognizable. The creative mastermind behind the montages that were a staple of CBC's Hockey Night In Canada broadcasts, Thompson has a unique gift for melding video, still images and musical accompaniment in a way that shaped the evening's narrative or perfectly captured the life and times of the game.
Thompson remained with Hockey Night when it was taken over by Rogers Communications, but his montages were cast aside in favor of more modern bells and whistles. And they've been sorely missed.
Fortunately, he took it upon himself to craft a tribute to the late Jean Béliveau, who was laid to rest today, on his own time. And it is, as you'd expect, brilliant.
Check it out. And Rogers? You might want to consider re-assigning Thompson to his old duties.
