It’s a good bet that nobody outside of the Flames organization was more upset to see the team eliminated from the playoffs by the Anaheim Ducks than Naheed Nenshi.

Nenshi, Calgary’s mayor, isn’t just a die-hard fan. He also lost a wager on the series to Anaheim mayor Tom Tait. And Monday it was time to pay up.

At a Calgary council meeting, the mayor donned a Ducks jersey (albeit one that was a bit out of date) and announced a donation to A.C.T Anaheim, a Ducks-funded charity that aids at-risk youth in Orange County.

And then the real fun began.

To complete the bet, Nenshi had to deliver a performance of “Let It Go’ from the Disney princess film Frozen. A tough tune for most guys to carry, but for someone who says he is terrified of singing in public, well, this had real disaster/comedy potential.

Nenshi wisely enlisted some old college buddies who are members of an acappella group to accompany him and shepherd him through the hard parts, but there are still some genuinely uncomfortable moments here.

Next time Nenshi might want to make it easier on himself and just bet some prime Alberta beef.
