Flyers honor papal visit to Philly with complimentary snack foods
Pope Francis is coming to Philadelphia at the end of September and while the papal visit is generating plenty of excitement among the faithful, it's also creating all sorts of chaos in the city. Schools are closing, mass transit is being reduced and major roads are being shut down. Basically, the town will be one step away from cats and dogs living together.
Among the affected are the Flyers, who had an exhibition game scheduled on Sept. 25 against the Islanders at 7 p.m. Given the road/transit issues, the Wells Fargo Center probably would have been a ghost town. So Thursday, the team finally accepted the inevitability of the Pope-pocalypse and changed the game's start to 6 p.m. to make it easier for fans to make it home before the city locks down.

Still, there's a good chance that it won't be an entirely hassle-free experience, so the Flyers found a way to reward their faithful for making the trek. All fans in attendance will be treated to free hot dog sandwiches, pretzels and soft drinks, as well as 50% off all Flyers merchandise at various retail outlets inside of the Wells Fargo Center.
And since many college students will be idled by the closures, the team is offering $20 tickets to college students with valid school ID on game day.
Pretty sweet deal. Especially those hot dog sandwiches.
