Report: Patrick Kane rape case is headed to a grand jury
A grand jury will begin hearing evidence next week about a local woman’s allegations that Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane raped her, reportsThe Buffalo News.
The grand jury will listen to the evidence presented before deciding whether Kane will be criminally charged.
Kane is accused of raping a woman in his home in Hamburg, N.Y, in the early hours of Aug. 2 after meeting the victim in a downtown Buffalo night club and inviting her to his home. Kane has reportedly met with New York authorities who were investigating the rape allegations.
Kane and the alleged victim reportedly may be invited to testify before the grand jury. A witness, reported to be the friend who accompanied the alleged victim to Kane’s home, has been subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury, according to WGRZ’s Scott Levin.
The woman accusing Kane was examined at a local hospital just hours after the incident, according to The Buffalo News. The results of the rape kit have not been made public.
The Blackhawks issued a statement on Aug. 6 in response to the allegations saying, “We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

Blackhawks training camp is set to begin on Sept. 18 at the University of Notre Dame’s Compton Family Ice Arena. Kane has not been suspended by the team.
