Travis Zajac scores twice, Devils beat Flyers 4-2

Travis Zajac broke a tie late in the second period and added an empty-net goal with 32 seconds left in the visiting New Jersey Devils' 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in exhibition play Wednesday night.

Tuomo Ruutu and Adam Henrique also scored for New Jersey, and Keith Kinkaid made 27 saves.

Chris Porter and Wayne Simmonds scored for Philadelphia. Michal Neuvirth allowed three goals on 18 shots in the first two periods, and Jason LaBarbera stopped all eight shots he faced in the third.

GERBE STARS FOR HURRICANES

At Raleigh, North Carolina, Nathan Gerbe tied it in the second period and had the shootout winner in the Hurricanes' 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals.

Elias Lindholm and Riley Nash also scored in regulation, and Jeff Skinner connected in the shootout. Eddie Lack made 31 saves.

Alex Ovechkin, Stanislav Galiev and Michael Latta scored for Washington, and T.J. Oshie had a goal in the shootout. Braden Holtby allowed three goals on 23 shots in the first two periods, and Justin Peters stopped all four shots he faced in the third and overtime.

RANGERS BEAT BRUINS

In New York, Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves and Viktor Stalberg, J.T. Miller and Rick Nash scored to help the Rangers beat the Boston Bruins 3-2.

Stalberg and Miller scored late in the second period, and Nash connected on a power play at 5:21 of the third. Brett Connolly scored twice for Boston, and Jonas Gustavsson made 24 saves.

ATHANASIOV LEADS RED WINGS PAST PENGUINS

In Pittsburgh, Andreas Athanasiov scored two goals and Petr Mrazek made 36 saves in the Detroit Red Wings' 7-2 victory over the Penguins.

Athanasiov, Dylan Larkin and Brendan Smith scored first-period goals, Riley Sheahan and Justin Abdelkader connected in the second, and Athanasiov and Anthony Mantha in the third.

Daniel Sprong and Beau Bennett scored for Pittsburgh.

Jeff Zatkoff allowed all seven Detroit goals on 22 shots.
