The NHL’s Department of Player Safety has suspended Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog for two games without pay after an illegal check to the head of Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand during a game on Thursday.

This is the first suspension of Landeskog’s career. He was fined in March for reaching over the bench and punching Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu in the head.

Marchand punched Landeskog after the hit and was fined $5,000 for roughing. Landeskog will forfeit $59,907.84 in salary, which will go to the NHL Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
