Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Patrick Kane’s 26-game point streak came to an end on Tuesday night during Chicago’s 3–0 loss at the hands of Semyon Varlamov and the Colorado Avalanche, the first game in which Kane failed to record a goal or assist since Oct. 15.

The Blackhawks’ winger has been producing at a scorching pace this season. He accumulated 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points during the streak, and has been held without a point in just three of his 32 games.

”Didn’t have it tonight, so now I can just focus on playing hockey,” he said after the game in which Varlamov made 29 saves, but none off the stick of Kane, who was held without a shot. “It was a good run, but when you have to talk about it every day it gets taxing.”

Kane earned his way onto an elite list, passing Sidney Crosby (2010–11) and legend Brett Hull (1991–92), who each had 25-game runs, to record the longest points streak in the NHL since Mats Sundin's 30-gamer in 1992-93. The all-time record is held by Wayne Gretzky (51 games in 1983-84). Mario Lemieux ranks second with 46 in ’89-90, followed by the Great One at 39 in ’85-86. Kane's streak is the longest ever by an American-born player.

Power Rankings: Oilers skyrocket 17 spots in dazzling Week 10 surge

Kane’s 27 assists and 46 points lead the NHL, and he ranks second in goals (19) and power play goals (10). Showtime has certainly lived up to his nickname, and is on pace for career highs in goals, assists and points. At 27 years old, already with 603 points in 607 career games, it appears as if he is just entering his prime.
