Nikita Soshnikov will never forget his first NHL goal and Maple Leafs fans will never forget the howl that came along with it.
Down 2-0 in the second period against the Washington Capitals, Soshnikov took a pass from Nazem Kadri streaking into the Capitals’ zone. He showed off a rocket of a shot that goalie Philipp Grubauer maybe only heard whistle by him.
In just his second NHL game, the Toronto rookie was mobbed by his teammates and celebrated the milestone with a celebratory howl still echoing throughout the Verizon Center.
Make no mistake, the Leafs movement is here, they’re going to be heard, and they’re collecting some pretty cool memorabilia along the way.
The 22-year old forward was signed as a free agent by the Maple Leafs last year after spending two seasons in the KHL. He’s racked up 18 goals and 28 points in 50 games with the AHL Marlies in his first North American season.
