Canadiens trade P.K. Subban to Predators for Shea Weber

The Canadiens have traded defenseman P.K. Subban to the Predators in exchange for fellow blue liner Shea Weber, Montreal announced Wednesday.

Subban, 27, is a two-time All-Star, known for his ability as a two-way defenseman. He has 63 goals and 215 assists in 434 games, and led the Habs with 26:22 of ice time per game last season.

Weber, who turns 31 in August, had 20 goals and 31 assists in 78 games last season. He has finished second in Norris Trophy voting twice in his career. 

Subban is signed through the 2021–22 season, while Weber is under contract until 2025–26. Weber signed a 14-year, $110 million offer sheet with the Flyers in 2012, which the Predators matched.

Subban was a fan favorite in Montreal, donating $10 million to Montreal Children’s Hospital. He responded to the news on Twitter:
