MacKinnon's focus was on display Wednesday night, as the 17-year-old winger added another indelible moment to his draft-year highlight reel. His Halifax Mooseheads were trailing the rival Rimouski Oceanic midway through the third period when MacKinnon took a pass in the slot from Detroit Red Wings prospect Martin Frk. As he turned toward the net, he got hauled down by Oceanic defender Ryan MacKinnon (no relation that I know of), but somehow maintained control of the puck. As he hit the ice with the defender on his back, MacKinnon got off a wrister that beat Rimouski netminder Robin Gusse to tie the game at four.
OK, so he caught a break when his shot deflected in off the skate of Nicolas Hebert, but this is still a beauty. Halifax went on to win the game 5-4 in the shootout.
