UPDATE 10:19 PM

With the successful conclusion to the hunt for the Boston Marathon bomber, the NHL has confirmed that the Boston-Pittsburgh game will be played Saturday afternoon at 12:30 EDT. The Bruins will now play their final six games of the season in a span of just nine days.

UPDATE 3:17 PM

It's official, finally. Here's the word, direct from the league:

The game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins scheduled for tonight at TD Garden has been postponed, the National Hockey League announced today.

The game has been tentatively rescheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 20, at TD Garden beginning at 12:30 p.m., Eastern time. The game's status will be formalized no later than 8:30 a.m.

The game between the Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, scheduled for Saturday night in Pittsburgh, has been moved to Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30p.m., ET.

It's worth noting the use of the word "tentatively" ahead of the rescheduled date. There's no way of knowing at this point if life in the city will be back to normal by that point, so we could be going through this again tomorrow. Good on the league, though, for specifying the time by which they'll make the call on that one.

That's an interesting take. That would seem to be the only practical option other than extending the regular season further if tonight's game is postponed as expected.

UPDATE 1:23 PM

If the Red Sox are canceling, there is a 100 percent chance the Bruins will follow suit. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 1:00 PM: Still no official word yet on tonight's Boston-Pittsburgh game as of 1 PM, but we have to be getting close to the point where a call is made. The T in Boston is still shut down, and police and other official resources needed for security at the TD Gardens are still being purposed in the hunt for the Boston Marathon bomber. At this point, it seems unlikely the game will be played tonight.

The hunt for the remaining Boston Marathon bombing suspect has the city of Boston on lockdown this morning as authorities attempt to ensure everyone's safety. No surprise then to see this announcement minutes ago from the Bruins:

No word yet on how this will impact tonight's scheduled game, but one would suspect that if the manhunt extends early into the afternoon, we could see another postponement.

One NHL source says the league is "closely monitoring the situation." Another said he was unaware of any deadline by which point the league would made a decision regarding the game.

Both teams were planning to wear jerseys with special patches that were to be auctioned off after the game, with all proceeds going to assist bombing victims.

Another postponement could pose problems for the league. The NHL regular season already has been extended by a day because of the bombings, with a game scheduled for Monday night between the Bruins at Senators rescheduled to April 28. The Stanley Cup playoffs currently are set to begin April 30.

We'll keep you updated on details as they become available. If you're in Boston, stay indoors and stay safe.
