I talked to a few Bruins fans the day after that heartbreaking loss in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup. They were disappointed, and still maybe a little stunned, but to a man they recognized that Chicago was the class of the league and that the Blackhawks were deserving champions.
Turns out they're the class of the league off the ice as well.
This morning, team chairman Rocky Wirtz and president John McDonough signed a full-page open letter in the Boston Globe, addressed to the Bruins and the city of Boston. You can read it in its entirety above.
As hard fought as it was, that series was played with integrity. Clean, intense, an all-out effort. No matter which side you were pulling for -- or if you didn't have a dog in the fight -- it was six nights that made you proud to be a hockey fan.
This gesture from the 'Hawks should make us all feel that same pride again.
Well done, boys. (s/t to Justin Bourne at The Score.)
