The agents for Tyler Bozak are reportedly seeking an eight-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs to keep the team's top center from entering free agency later this week.
The good news? They're asking for something less than $5 million per season.
Apparently, the offer was made with a completely straight face, but it's unlikely anyone is taking it too seriously.
This is just a line in the water for Newport Sports. If the Leafs bite, they get their client the security he clearly values. If they don't, they can weigh it against the interest they receive when the interview period for pending free agents opens up at 12 a.m. on Wednesday.
In five seasons, the undrafted free agent scored 53 goals and 81 assists in 238 career NHL games, all with Toronto.
It's a good bet he'll be a free agent for the second time in his career later this week.
