The Bet is the best thing you'll watch tonight
By Allan Muir
Let me put it to you this way: unless your child takes his/her first steps, or you happen to catch a double rainbow all the way across the sky, "The Bet" is better than anything else you'll see tonight.
Seriously. Skip the fresh episodes of "Extreme Cougar Wives" or "Honey Boo Boo" or "Duck Dynasty" or whatever brain-rotting reality crap you were planning to watch and settle in for this 41-minute documentary about a couple of "backyard guys" whose four-year-old bet comes to a head with the 2011 Stanley Cup finals between the Bruins and the Canucks. At stake: the loser has to get a tattoo of the winning team's logo.
Yeah, you know exactly how it ends, but that didn't ruin "Titanic", did it? The fun comes in watching these two buddies, who live and die by their favorite team, deal with the emotional roller coaster of the finals and push the boundaries of friendship as the nasty series plays out to its climax. And one of 'em pushes really hard. One warning: It's profane. I mean, Quentin Tarantino might find it a little over the top, so pop in the ear buds or wait until the kids are asleep before pressing play. And hopefully you won't see too much of yourself in one of these guys.
