For years, the scouts were saying that the draft class of 2013 would be something special.
First indications are they were right.
Seven players selected in June were officially named to their team's opening night rosters today, including first overall pick Nathan MacKinnon, second choice Aleksander Barkov and fourth selection Seth Jones.
In total, 36 players earned the chance to make their NHL debuts out of camp. The designation doesn't ensure they'll play--just ask Matt Dumba, back for a second kick at the can after breaking camp with the Wild last January, only to spend eight days in the press box before earning a return trip to Red Deer of the WHL--but it gets them one step closer to the dream.
This isn't a complete list of players who are eligible for the Calder Trophy. Rather it's players who have never skated in an NHL game prior to this opportunity.
