Safe to say James van Riemsdyk was ready to go at the start of the second period on Friday.
Van Riemsdyk set a new Toronto Maple Leaf record when he scored just four seconds into the second frame, taking a pass off the opening draw and rifling it top shelf past Flyers goalie Steve Mason. The goal was his 29th this season, and was two seconds faster than Mats Sundin's old franchise mark, set in a 1995 win in St. Louis.
JVR's goal sets Leaf record for fastest goal at start of period 0:04. Ties NHL mark: C.Provost, MTL, Nov. 9/57 & D. Savard, CHI, Jan. 12/86.
