LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) Lindsey Vonn will help promote the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.

The IOC says the American skier will serve as an ambassador for the games, the same role she held for the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2012.

Vonn won the gold medal in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. She missed the 2014 Sochi Games because of a right knee injury. She joins Norwegian skier Kjetil Jansrud as an ambassador for Lillehammer, which hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics.

Vonn says ''Lillehammer with its Olympic history and famous venues will provide the best experience for the athletes on and off the field of play.''

The Youth Games will run from Feb. 12-21, 2016. Athletes will compete in seven sports on the Olympic program, as well as team ski-snowboard cross and monobob.
