OSLO, Norway (AP) The head of Norway's national Olympic committee has decided to step down next year.

The committee says 77-year-old president Borre Rognlien received several written threats while Oslo was bidding for the 2022 Winter Games.

But spokesman Per Toien says the threats were not related to the bid and were not the reason for Rognlien's decision to step down rather than seek another four-year term.

Toien on Tuesday declined to say who had sent the threats. He said a mailed letter was handed over to police.

Rognlien's decision came a few weeks after Oslo became the fourth city to pull out of the 2022 race. The Norwegian government declined to provide the necessary financial guarantees.
