RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) The IOC will set up a special area in the Olympic Village in Rio next year for athletes to mourn the loss of family or friends, and will also hold a ''moment of reflection'' during the closing ceremony.

The decision was announced on Friday by International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach after a meeting of his executive board.

At the inauguration of the mourning place, Bach says the IOC will ''remember all those who have lost their lives at the Olympic Games.''

Bach says that could include the 11 Israelis who died after Palestinian gunmen raided the athletes village at the 1972 Munich Olympics. He also cited Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died in a crash the day before the opening of the 2010 Vancouver Games.
