Manchester United defender Rafael has left the team's U.S. tour and returned to its training complex in England after sustaining a groin injury, the club announced Monday.

Rafael suffered the injury during training in Denver a day before United's 3-2 win over AS Roma on Saturday. There's no indication how long he will be out with the injury.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has been with United since 2008, scoring five goals in 159 appearances.

Antonio Valencia started for Rafael in the game against Roma, with Ashley Young coming on for the second half.

United next plays Tuesday in Washington D.C. against Inter.
