Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martínez will miss several months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the team announced Thursday.
Martínez was injured in the first half of Bayern's 2-0 loss defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup on Wednesday and had to be removed from the field on a stretcher.
The club said that Martínez will likely fly to Vail, Colo. over the next few days to have surgery and will start rehab on his knee once he returns to Munich.
