Bayern Munich finalizes acquistion of Real Madrid's Xabi Alonso
Bayern Munich has completed its acquisition of midfielder Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid, the club announced Friday.
Alonso, 32, will sign a two-year contract with the two-time defending Bundesliga champions. He took his physical with the team on Thursday before the move was made official.
Alonso played five seasons for Real following a 2009 move from Liverpool. He had signed a new two-year contract with Real in January.
The Spanish midfielder announced his retirement from international soccer earlier this week. During his time with Spain, he was a member of two European Champion teams, as well as the 2010 World Cup-winning squad. He scored 16 goals in 114 games for Spain.
Bayern is 1-0 in the Bundesliga this season.
