Portugal manager Paulo Bento quits with mutual consent
Portugal manager Paulo Bento has quit by mutual consent following the team's Euro 2016 qualifying loss to Albania, the Portuguese Football Federation announced.
Portugal, the No. 11 ranked team in the world, was upset by Albania on Sunday. Star forward Cristiano Ronaldo did not play because of an injury.
Bento and Portugal were eliminated from the 2014 World Cup in the group stage. He took over as manager in 2010, and his contract continued through April 2016.
The Portuguese Football Federation released a statement thanking Bento for his contributions to the team.
Portugal's next match is Oct. 11 against France.
