Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told striker Mario Balotelli he needs to score more, BBC Sport reports.
Balotelli has scored just one goal in seven games since his £16 million ($25.6 million) transfer from AC Milan.
From the BBC:
"In terms of goals he needs to improve, it is as simple as that," said Rodgers. "Not just him but any striker is judged on goals and at this moment he hasn't probably hit the numbers he would want to."
According to BBC, Balotelli did not touch the ball in the opposition penalty area during Wednesday's Champions League loss to FC Basel.
The 24-year-old scored 26 goals in 43 matches for Milan during his year and a half with the club.
The striker has 13 goals in international play for Italy, including the winning goal against England at this summer's World Cup.
Entering Friday, Liverpool is 14th in the Premier League table with seven points. The club plays West Bromwich on Saturday.
