Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will be out for three months after injuring his thigh while playing for Croatia, the team announced on Monday.

Modric, 29, was injured during the first half of Sunday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy. The club says Modric has been diagnosed with a torn left proximal rectus femoris tendon.

The Croatian Football Federation announced Modric is expected to miss three months with the injury.

"The Croatian national team and Real Madrid midfielder will be away from the football pitch for about three months after the injury sustained in the encounter between Italy and Croatia."
