Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is set to move to Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy following the Premier League season, but Reds chief executive Ian Ayre said that a Gerrard return to Anfield on loan in the future is possible.

Earlier this month, Gerrard announced he would join LA Galaxy in July.

"The fact that he's leaving doesn't mean it's the last we'll see of him at Liverpool," Ayre said, according to the BBC, adding that a loan in January 2016 was "conceivable."

Ayre made the comments on City Talk, a Liverpool radio station. He said the club and Gerrard have discussed the possibility of a loan return to Merseyside.

It is not uncommon for MLS players to play in Europe on loan during the MLS offseason. In recent years, former LA Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan played for Everton on loan, while Clint Dempsey returned to former club Fulham in early 2014 on loan.

Since debuting in 1998, Gerrard has appeared in 697 matches for Liverpool. He has scored 182 goals for the club.
