The European season is at its midpoint, but U.S. national team striker Aron Johannsson is still just rounding into shape thanks to offseason ankle surgery. He continued his progress on Sunday with a goal (albeit a very opportunistic one) for AZ Alkmaar against Heracles in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Playing in just his 10th league game of the season after missing the first 10, Johannsson was able to get a touch on an impressive bicycle kick effort from Nemanja Gudelj just before it crossed the goal line, giving Alkmaar the lead after just nine minutes.

The goal is Jóhansson's third of the season. He would go on to play the remainder of the game, which AZ won 3-1. The team currently sits fifth in the Eredivisie table on 35 points, one behind PEC Zwolle and one ahead of Twente.
