Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has broken a bone in his right foot and will undergo surgery on Thursday, the club announced.
James was injured on Wednesday after scoring the first goal in the first half of Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Sevilla in the Spanish League.
The club said that tests showed that James has a "fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot" and will be operated on "in the next few hours."
James has 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 games this season for Real Madrid, who lead the Spanish League by four points over Barcelona.
Real Madrid takes on La Liga defending champion Atletico Madrid on Saturday. James' availability for the knockout rounds of the Champions League is not known.
Real Madrid’s round-of-16 UEFA Champions League match with Schalke takes place on Feb. 18.
