A game after erupting for a career-high five goals against Granada, Cristiano Ronaldo has hit another personal milestone.
Ronaldo's goal against Rayo Vallecano Wednesday was his 300th in a Real Madrid shirt, and it helped break a scoreless tie in an important league match for Los Blancos.
Ronaldo headed home Dani Carvajal's cross from the right in the 67th minute to open the scoring (James Rodriguez followed soon after with Real Madrid's second).
Ronaldo becomes the third player to hit the 300-plateau for Real Madrid, joining current New York Cosmos forward Raúl and the late Alfredo Di Stefano in the exclusive club. Ronaldo has caught up quite quickly, too. It took Raúl 741 games to set his club mark of 323, and Di Stefano scored his 308 goals in 396 games. Wednesday's match was Ronaldo's 287th with the club.
With Barcelona winning earlier in the day, Wednesday's result became even more vital for Real Madrid, which entered the day trailing Lionel Messi & Co. by four points for first place and leading third-place city rival Atlético Madrid by just two.
