U.S. men's national team defender DeAndre Yedlin made his debut with English Premier League club Tottenham on Saturday against Aston Villa.

Yedlin came on in the 79th minute for defender Vlad Chiriches and completed all five of his passes in a 1-0 loss.

The 21-year-old joined Tottenham from the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer in January.

Yedlin signed a four-year contract reportedly worth $4 million.

He had emerged as a popular European target last summer following his strong performance for the United States men's national team at the World Cup in Brazil.

Yedlin later earned US Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year honors.
