U.S. announces 23-player roster for 2015 Women's World Cup

U.S. women's national team head coach Jill Ellis has revealed the 23 players that will travel to Canada this summer to represent the United States at the 2015 Women's World Cup. 

BIRD: Work remains for U.S. ahead of World Cup adventure

The roster is headlined by familiar faces, as forward Abby Wambach will head to her fourth World Cup, while defender and team captain Christie Rampone is likely to appear in her fifth despite missing all of 2015's matches so far due to injuries. Goalkeeper Hope Solo makes her third World Cup team after serving a 30-day suspension and helping the team win the 2015 Algarve Cup

Also in the squad is forward Alex Morgan and midfielder Megan Rapinoe, each of whom will appear in their second World Cup. Canadian-born forward Sydney Leroux, meanwhile, will make her World Cup debut in the country where she grew up.

The U.S. has been drawn in what is widely considered to be the tournament's "Group of Death," along with Sweden, Australia, and Nigeria. The team opens the tournament on June 8th in Winnipeg against Australia
