Barcelona advanced to the semifinal round of the UEFA Champions League by defeating Paris Saint-German 5-1 on aggregate in the quarterfinal round. Bayern Munich advanced to the semifinal round by defeating FC Porto 7-4 on aggregate in the quarterfinal. Barcelona finished atop Group F with 15 points, while Bayern Munich finished atop Group E with 15 points.

Last year, Barcelona won its group before falling to Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinal round. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich won its group before losing to Real Madrid in the semifinal round. 

Barcelona currently sits atop La Liga with 87 points, two ahead of Real Madrid. Bayern Munich currently leads the Bundesliga with 76 points, 14 ahead of VfL Wolfsburg. The Bavarians already wrapped up the Bundesliga title.
