Chelsea signs striker Radamel Falcao on season-long loan
Colombian striker Radamel Falcao agreed to a season-long loan from Monaco with Premier League champion Chelsea, the team announced Friday.
AS Monaco said that the deal includes a buy option for the 2015–16 season.
Falcao scored just four goals during the 2014–15 season with Manchester United, and United announced that he would not return to the team in May.
He left to return to AS Monaco in the French Ligue 1 and is expected to play for Chelsea when their pre-season opens later this month.
“I am very happy to be joining Chelsea and can't wait to start training and help with our aim of retaining the league title and being successful in Europe, Falcao said.
The 29-year-old missed last summer's World Cup with a knee injury.
Falcao has also played for FC Porto, where he scored 72 goals between 2009 and 2011, and River Plate, Porto and Atletico Madrid, combining for 297 appearances since 2004 and 179 goals.
With the loan completed, Falcao reunites with Atletico teammates Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, as well as international teammate Juan Cuadrado.
