Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshire will require surgery for the hairline fracture in his left leg and is expected to miss three months, coach Arsène Wenger and the team announced on Tuesday.
Wilshire is expected to have a small plate inserted into his left fibula. The 23-year-old is coming off a season in which he missed five months due to ankle ligament damage.
“When you are coming back from an injury, you have a vulnerable period, a time when you need to strengthen your body and gain competition,” Wenger told reporters.
Arsenal will open their Champions League play on Wednesday against Dinamo Zagreb following their 2-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday. Right back Héctor Bellerín and midfielder Aaron Ramsey will also miss the fixture in Croatia.
