Pope Francis’s visit to the United States had drawn a great deal of attention from individuals all over the country, including former soccer star David Beckham.

Beckham visited the United Nations to promote child welfare on Thursday, just a day before Pope Francis was set to address the body’s General Assembly.

“I saw images of him this morning with a young girl, which is truly incredible,” Beckham said of Pope Francis, calling him “truly amazing.”

Beckham, who has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF for 11 years, spoke about the importance of combating the children crisis around the world, noting that this year, “more than 15 million children were exposed to extreme violence and many more affected by natural disasters.”

Next, Pope Francis will travel to Philadelphia on Friday evening.
