The Montreal Impact named Mauro Biello as their new head coach, the team announced on Friday.

Biello took over head coaching duties as the interim after the organization fired Frank Klopas on Aug. 30. Prior to his new role, Biello, a Montreal native, was an assistant coach with the team since 2012.

After replacing Klopas, Biello lead the squad to a 7-2-2 down the stretch of the season to finish third in the Eastern Conference.

Biello was also named the Director of Player Personnel. He had a 19-year career as a professional player, playing 16 seasons with the Montreal Impact.
