U.S. women’s national team forward Sydney Leroux is expecting her first child with husband Dom Dwyer and will miss the Olympics this summer and the NWSL season.
The 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro in August.The USWNT is seeking its fourth straight gold medal.
Dwyer plays for Sporting Kansas City in MLS and Leroux was recently traded to the NWSL’s FC Kansas City.
“Although we are disappointed that Syd will not be playing for us this season, we are thrilled and excited for her and Dom,” FC Kansas City general manger Huw Williams said in a statement. “Dealing with matters such as these is a part of our business. All of us at FC Kansas City are ‘family first’ type of people so we see this as an exciting and joyous occasion.”
Leroux, 25, made her USWNT debut in 2011. She played in four of the team’s seven games at the 2015 World Cup, recording one assist.
