Cristiano Ronaldo gave Real Madrid a 1-0 lead in the team's Champions League knockout stage match against Roma with a scintillating strike from just inside the box. 

Ronaldo cut inside with his left foot and curled a right–footed shot past the outstretched arms of Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesney. 

Ronaldo has now scored 89 goals in the Champions League over his career, the highest total ever. Barcelona's Lionel Messi is second all–time with 80 goals.

The goal came a day after Ronaldo stormed out of a press conference after a reporter questioned his scoring ability away from home, where Ronaldo had not tallied since late November. 

The two teams will play their second leg on March 8 in Madrid.
