Gianni Infantino elected new FIFA president
Friday February 26th, 2016

Former FIFA executive Jack Warner says he “paid no attention” to Friday’s election of Gianni Infantino as FIFA’s new president, reports AFP News.

Warner, the former vice president of FIFA and president of CONCACAF, was banned from the sport for life and faces charges of racketeering, money laundering and bribery.

“I don’t even know who is running,” Warner said at the Hall of Justice in Port-of-Spain.

Warner also spoke about former FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s demise with world soccer’s governing body, saying Blatter’s own “vindictiveness” caused it.

“I told him it was time to step down, let the younger men run the thing and so on,” Warner said. “So he came at me. All of this is because of his vindictiveness and spite. But I warned them that the tsunami would come and it is here now.”

Blatter announced his intention to resign from the presidency in June as FIFA became embroiled in a major corruption scandal. In December, Blatter was banned from all football-related activity for eight years after making a controversial payment to Michel Platini in 2002. The suspension was reduced to six years on Wednesday.

Issa Hayatou had served as FIFA’s interim president since October.
