Former Manchester United and current Bayer Leverkusen forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez says he keeps in touch with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
In an interview with BBC, Hernandez — in midst of a resurgent season in Germany — discussed his relationship, and friendship with the former United boss. They still text before games.
“He gave me the chance to make my dream come true,” Hernandez says. “Alex Ferguson is still a very important person in my life.”
“When we played in the Champions League, before the Atlético Madrid game, we texted. I saw him in two games before, and we have a lot of contact as well. When I was going to Madrid...I spoke with him in person, I went to his house. We keep in contact as well as we can, obviously he has a lot of things to do as well, his family, that’s why he retired. I’m in another country and trying to do my best as well.”
Hernandez also mentioned that on his departure from United, Louis Van Gaal was “very honest,” and encouraged him to take a good offer from another team — which ended up being Real Madrid on loan. Hernandez joined Leverkusen in August.
