The 2026 FIFA World Cup host will be selected in May 2020, FIFA announced Tuesday.

The bidding process, which will include four phases, will begin this month. It will focus on four areas, according to the world governing body of soccer’s website:

• The inclusion of human rights requirements, sustainable event management, environmental protection in the bidding

• Principle of exclusion of bidders that do not meet technical requirements

• Review of the current stance on joint bids

• Number of teams

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will take place in Russia, while the 2022 tournament will be held in Qatar. The United States is widely expected to bid for the 2026 World Cup.
