Watch: Iceland broadcaster's calls of Euro 2016 goals vs. France
Iceland bidding farewell to Euro 2016 means no more game assignments for Gudmundur Benediktsson, the exuberant broadcaster for the underdog nation who became a viral sensation this summer, but he was able to part ways with two more moments of glory.
After falling behind France 4-0 by halftime, Iceland scored twice in the second half, taking those consolation goals back home and providing Benediktsson with something to shout about, albeit in a much more toned-down manner.
Here are Benediktsson's calls of Kolbeinn Sigthursson and Birkik Bjarnason's goals that made Iceland the only team to score multiple goals on France in five games this tournament:
Benediktsson became a worldwide phenomenon for his jovial screams and unbridled joy in documenting Iceland's landmark results in the competition. His shrieks in the group finale vs. Austria and enthusiasm in the victory over England wound up being a large part of what made Iceland's run so special. With Iceland grouped with Croatia, Turkey, Ukraine, Finland and Kosovo in 2018 World Cup qualifying, we're all looking forward to seeing what Benediktsson does as a follow-up act.
