Wales midfielder Joe Allen is on his way from Liverpool to Stoke City after transferring and signing a five-year deal with the Potters on Monday, the club announced.

Allen, 26, starred for Wales at Euro 2016 in the Dragons' run to the semifinals, and he leaves Liverpool after four years at Anfield. His transfer cost Stoke a fee that could rise to as high as £13 million.

“Joe is a player that Mark [Hughes, Stoke manager] has admired for a considerable amount of time," Stoke CEO Tony Scholes said in a statement. “Therefore, when we became aware of the possibility of bringing him to the club it was something that we were determined to do. We have had to act swiftly to conclude the deal but we are delighted that we have managed to get it over the line.”

Allen is Stoke's second signing of the day after the club inked 19-year-old Egyptian winger Ramadan Sobhi from Al Ahly.
