Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani has signed a contract to join Leicester City.

The deal is reportedly worth £29 million ($39 million).

Slimani is coming off a season where he scored 27 goals for Portugese club.

"To join a team like Leicester City is a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started,” Slimani said in a statement. “I’ve always wanted to play my football in the Premier League and to get the opportunity to do that with the reigning champions was something I simply could not turn down."

His name may be familiar within soccer circles as he was a member of the Algerian squad that reached the knockout stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He recorded two goals in that World Cup.

Leicester City could also have interest in Slimani's teammate Adrien Silva.
