INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Roger Penske is considering having a car in Australia's V8 Supercar Series. But the team owner declined to say if Marcos Ambrose is in line for a position with the team, either as the driver or in a management role.

The Brisbane Courier-Mail has reported that Penske was working with longtime Australian race team owner Dick Johnson to form a Supercar team for Ambrose. The Australian has been in NASCAR full time since 2006 and with Richard Petty Motorsports since 2011.

''I'm not going to comment at this point,'' Penske said of Ambrose before the Brickyard 400 on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. ''We're looking at the opportunity, but we've got sponsorships we've got to deal with, and we're trying to put something together. But we haven't made a decision yet.''

Ambrose has also stayed mum on the subject. But Richard Petty said this weekend the team is waiting to hear from Ambrose on what he'd like to do next season.

''It's probably up to him as much as anything,'' Petty said. ''He's been good for Richard Petty Motorsports. We admire what he's been doing for us. It's going to be basically a decision of what does he want to do? Does he want to run all the races, just part of the races, does he want to go home? That's going to be up to him.''
