Antonio Gates Set To Return This Weekend Against The Jets

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates will return to the field this Sunday against the New York Jets, according to NFL.com.

Gates had previously missed the last three games for the Chargers due to lingering effects from a plantar fascia injury he suffered late last season. The former Pro Bowler registered eight receptions for 74 yards in San Diego’s opening game this season, but has not been able to contribute since.

Chargers head coach Norv Turner indicated that the 31-year-old will likely not play the whole game, however, as a result of his recent inability to complete a full week of practice.

"I think it would be hard to ask him to do that," Turner told NFL.com. "We did that in the first two games, and that probably got us where we're at, so we just have to be smarter. See how he handles it. Play him a couple of series and then give him a series out. Obviously, we've been playing without him. I'm sure we can manage that."
